Project Summary
Nowhere was established in early 2020 in response to COVID-19 to connect humans in a time of unprecedented social distance. Connect, explore and create in the metaverse in seconds. Cruise around, see the worlds, find an event, maybe bump into someone.
Nowhere is a video chat and conference site, opting for first-person avatars and 3D environments instead of the traditional flat screen Zoom call. This format allows for proximity-based audio, places to explore while in a call, and overall a more organic video conference experience.
Responsibilities
Worlds
  • Designed, modeled, and maintained spaces used on the platform
  • Tested worlds' performance to ensure smooth operation inside the web-based engine
  • Responsible for overhauling 4 worlds produced by previous artists: Wavespace, 6thBoro, Blackbox, and Arco
  • Worlds were built inside of Blender, then a custom in-house tool was used to export to engine
Other
  • Collaborated with engineers to improve in-house Blender plugin
  • Kept records of observed issues & pain points with tool
  • Helped brainstorm ideas for new features on the platform
