Game Summary
Moonsighted is a PC third-person hack-and-slash adventure about cultural and political strife in the face of technology and progress amongst moon-worshipping moths trapped in a cavern. Play as Mairu, a moth miner using the power of cave crystals to empower himself and lift his people out of the depths of the earth.
Explore dangerous depths to fight off cavernous critters to acquire more crystals and help lead your people back to moonlight. This game portrays a fictional setting that depicts the dangers of unregulated and thoughtless progress of technology, where the player is put in the shoes of an unreliable narrator.
Characters
Moths - The "Jonditsa"
- Designed after Luna moths, to fit cave environment and moon theme
- 2 variants: regular and moonsighted. Moonsighted use cyan color pallet and crystal accessories
- Modeled in Blender, high-poly in ZBrush, retopo & UVs in Maya
- Textured in Substance Painter, with two color variations
- Rigging & animation with Mixamo, to fit tight project schedule. Skinning cleanup work done in Maya
Lizards - The "Uskerra"
- Based on axolotls & other cave salamanders
- Large, crystalline eye emphasizes their connection to the crystals
- Pipeline is the same as the moths, but rigging & animation was done in Maya because of quadrupedal form
Environment
Village
- The home of the Jonditsa, filled with buildings, market stalls, and mushroom farms
- Designed with materials available in the cave - rocks & shroom wood
- Responsible for texturing, used Substance Painter & Designer
Caves
- Designed and modeled modular cave kit, allowing for rapid prototyping and level design
- Created props including rocks, crystals, and mushrooms + variants of each
- Assets modeled in ZBrush, textured in Substance
Other Responsibilities
- Designed backstory and lore for the game's world
- Used Basque language to create unique names for characters and in-world concepts
- Developed & maintained file structure and naming conventions for project organization
- Running playtests - creating feedback forms, gathering participants, and processing data
- Organized team Discord server for keeping track of communications, resources, and links
